English Dub Review: Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider “What’s a Kamen Rider Do When a Dangerous Enemy Appears?”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tojima and the gang now know that both Shocker and monsters are real.  What’s next?

Our Take:
Tojima and the others thought fighting a spider-like combatant was the strangest thing they had encountered.  That is, until they discovered that a Shocker member, the nefarious enemy Kamen Riders have sworn to defeat, has performed a heroic act.  That alone was enough to prompt shocking yet amusing reactions from this unexpected team.  Despite this revelation, their primary focus remains on dealing with the vicious Spider Man.  Given the creature’s capabilities, how would they be able to combat such a threat?  According to Ichiyo, the solution to this predicament is to compete in a tournament to determine which member is strong enough to defeat the creature.
That does seem like a waste of time at first, since the Spider Man is still on the loose.  But regarding the concept and humor, it further emphasizes the characters’ passion for the different iterations of Kamen Rider, particularly their determination to decide which version reigns supreme through training.  Amid the group’s intense preparations, the episode also introduces a new Shocker combatant, Thunder Raiko, who’s sent to eliminate the members who have overcome the organization’s brainwashing.  Unfortunately, that includes Yukarisu, who broke free from Shocker’s control to be with Mitsuba and is taking part in the tournament, much to her reluctance.  Because of this revelation, Spider Man is now the least of their concerns, as Thunder Raiko could prove to be a massive wall that’ll threaten Mitsuba and Yukarisu’s relationship and, more importantly, the tournament.
