Review: Hazbin Hotel “New Pentious” ; “Storyteller.”

Overview:

Hazbin Hotel has recently returned for a second season, with a few episodes premiering on October 29, 2025. Episodes are coming out two at a time in weekly intervals, airing well into November. The season starts off with “New Pentious” and “Storyteller.”

Our Take:

Things start out with Katie Killjoy recounting the end of the last season, including how Charlie recently saved Hell from the Exterminators, all the while tormenting her co-host. As months have passed, questions arise on whether Heaven will attack again or if Charlie might be an even bigger threat.

Meanwhile, the eponymous hotel is becoming more and more popular since the events of the first season, if only because the residents of Hell think Charlie’s a main threat to the angels and they can join in on the killing. Vaggie could use some help while contemplating a name change, Anglest Dust is throwing back a few drinks, and everyone is wondering where Charlie is.

Charlie has sequestered herself away, mourning Pentious’ death, wanting to put on a happy face, but it’s not easy for her to fight back the tears. In fact, she might be looking for a new “Pentious” of sorts to fill the void, while making sure losing the original wasn’t in vain. She’s not the only one left with questions, either, with Cherri Bomb wishing she could have some answers.

Complicating things, Charlie also has to deal with the press, all while Vox, who knows that she will still try to fight for peace, tries to spin things with his own agenda, and with high ambitions. Charlie gets help from a familiar face, Lucifer, which inspires her to think about her mother, Lilith, and even try to contact her. Inspired, she decides to come clean, not wanting people to join the hotel for the wrong reasons. As one can expect, this ends up turning people away.

Of course, viewers can’t expect a happy ending with the season opener. That said, a little message from above leads Charlie to end the episode with a literal scream, though it does come with some interesting news.

“Storyteller” takes things upward, with fans getting to see how Heaven is reacting to the events of the previous season. Most of the angels, who had no idea that there was an Extermination, also have questions. It turns out that reports of Pentious’ death were exaggerated, with the heavenly court wondering about how the residents of Hell could be redeemed.

One powerful angel, the “Speaker of God,” intervenes and asks Pentious to share his story, giving some insight into his past life as a human. All the while, the angels debate whether or not Hell could be planning its next move.

Emily hopes to give Pentious a good second impression of the place upstairs, but he wants something he can’t quite yet: to see his friends down below. Of course, with his redemption being a new development, the place doesn’t have much of a protocol for that. There isn’t much precedent for souls leaving, either. Still, Emily will try to get him to enjoy his new surroundings, complete with a music number. After all, who needs uranium when you can have unicorns? And pangolins.

Sera is also left asking for answers when a hole has just been ripped in the justification of the extermination battle, and she’s not the only character wondering what’s going on. Either way, there’s still the question of what happens next regarding a possible attack from Hell.

A few figures will also appear. One is someone very close to Charlie. The other is someone who currently has something in common with Sir Pentious. Everything will end with a big announcement, while Emily will try to send a message down below.

The season’s only just getting started, so fans are naturally still going to be left wanting more, but everything is already coming out with a good start. Unlike the characters, fans will already get a few answers to things they’ve been asking about since the first season. All the while, they will see the return of some of the show’s popular aspects, from its iconic art style, including some biblically accurate angels, to its twists and turns.

The one thing many Hazbin Hotel fans have been waiting for is the return of its famous musical numbers, with both episodes having a few show-stoppers already. Fans will get to hear songs in all different styles. This makes sense, as the story shows things from both sides of eternity. Of course, with figures like Liz Callaway, Darren Criss, and Patrick Stump in the voice cast, fans can even expect Heaven’s residents to sing like an angelic choir.

In the end, the best thing that can be said about any season opener is that it leaves you wanting more, and the show certainly delivers. Fans can expect two more episodes to come out by next week.
