English Dub Review: I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability “In the Light”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Lloyd’s overwhelming magic forces Guitane to confront his own doubts about God.

Our Take:
Guitane certainly received a punishment that’s much worse than God’s wrath, and that’s Lloyd’s tremendous power.  Despite Guitane being able to withstand it, Lloyd’s purification ability is just too much for the corrupted priest to overcome.  It goes to show that no matter the opponent, Lloyd always comes out on top with a massive grin on his face.  Like the season one finale, “In the Light” provided enough thrills for Lloyd to have his OP powers tested on the final boss.  However, the true aspect of the season’s conclusion was its reflection on Guitane’s perspective on God.
He believed that his life was constantly foiled by God’s plan, particularly through his struggle against Lloyd, whom he believes might threaten the world with his magic.  Of course, through Lloyd’s kindness, Guitane comes to terms with his goal by realizing the passion for doing something for fun.  This element comes in the form of Escher, in which we learn that she became a nun because she loves to sing.  It wasn’t for a religious reason.  She just likes to sing.  Of course, due to the events that occurred, Escher is chosen to become the next pope, which initially makes her hesitate, but she quickly accepts upon hearing that her voice can be heard around the world.  I’m still shocked that her vocal chords didn’t break from all the singing she did.  I guess you can say that this was a pretty sweet way of concluding another magical adventure with the most powerful prince in existence.
It bears repeating that the show’s first season didn’t make a good first impression for me regarding its premise and questionable actions.  So, I wasn’t too excited about Lloyd’s second journey to master his magical ability.  That is, until I discovered that season two was surprisingly more tolerable than I had anticipated.  Though far from perfect, it at least made some improvements to its light-hearted humor and focused less on the inappropriate stuff.  More importantly, the inclusion of its religious themes and focus on the supporting characters helped make the church arc a bit more interesting than Lloyd mastering his OP aura.  So, color me impressed when I say that the second go-round with the seventh prince was the season-to-season improvement it desperately needed.
