English Dub Review: Cat’s Eye “Difficult Love”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Hitomi and Rui plan to steal from the Ohashi Museum of Art despite Ai’s objections.

Our Take:
Now that we know the motive behind the Cat’s Eye’s robberies, the race to find the clues involving their missing father is starting to heat up.  Unsurprisingly, this means that we’ll be seeing plenty more heists from the cat burglar trio this season, with their latest heist being no different.  However, it’s not just the heists that warrant the series’s thrills but also the character moments amid their missions that test the sisters’ personal relationship and trust with one another.  The previous episode did a solid job focusing on Hitomi’s personal mission involving one of her father’s paintings.  Now, in “Difficult Love”, the series shifts its focus to another member of the Cat’s Eye trio, Ai.
The episode features the Cat’s Eye attempting to steal the Lakeside House painting from the Ohashi Museum of Art, which, of course, is another painting that belonged to their father.  Unfortunately, this mission isn’t as straightforward as it seems, notably because Ai’s sweetheart is the son of the museum’s head of security, Kono.  Additionally, Kono is at risk of getting terminated from the job if the painting is stolen from Cat’s Eye, putting a strain on the sisters’ trust.  Fortunately, their clever plan helped them steal the Lakeside House painting and expose the director’s wrongdoing of embezzlement.  Essentially, these feisty cats killed two birds with one stone in a single episode.
Its plot may not be as effective as the previous episode, but “Difficult Love” continues to highlight the show’s sisterly bond amid the thrilling heists they’re committing.  I have been hearing that the source material has been criticized for its narrative’s repetition, which makes sense considering it’s about cat burglars stealing priceless artifacts.  However, as long as it’s utilized to further expand on its charming characters, particularly Hitomi’s relationship with Toshio, its flaws would continue to be left in the dust through its robberies.
