English Dub Review: The Water Magician “Unprecedented”

Hax! I call Hax

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Ryo easily disposes of the Demon Prince, but unknown to him, Leonore is plotting something of her own.

OUR TAKE

Well, as I (and I assume many others) expected, Ryo cleaned that Demon Prince’s clock in no time flat, proving once again that he has got some rather crazy power under that Fairy King robe. In case it wasn’t clear already, Ryo is easily several heads and shoulders above the strength level of probably everyone in that town (aside from his new special elf friend Sera who looks to be a match), though the fact that he could pants something like a Demon Prince that looks like an end boss monster is certainly eye brow raising. And naturally, while Abel and the regular adventuring party are just glad to be out of there alive, some in the upper ranks are understandably concerned about what may happen if more powerful people find out about Ryo’s capabilities. As much as we know Ryo is working on the side of good unambiguously, that may not sway those whose control over the city relies on things remaining in the good ol status quo. Buuuuuut also we’re already two thirds of the way through this season (and very likely series as a whole) so I feel like it’s safe to say that we’re probably not going to be addressing this in any meaningful way. But I’ve been wrong before.

We also finally check back in with Leonore, the Akuma that Ryo faced down a few episodes ago during the eclipse that apparently triggered the Tidal Bore in the first place. Good to see she’s still hanging around, and to have confirmation that Akuma are a vast step up from Devils and Demon Princes and Lords, though maybe it’s a translation thing because Akuma itself is just another word for Devil or Demon, but apparently they’re higher up for some reason. The added sapience probably helps, and we see why as Leonore appears to a party of hapless adventurers and basically crushes them emotionally about how much stronger she is than all of them put together. She does, however, leave them with knowing that Ryo is quite strong, and this getting out is the opposite of what some would want, but we’ll see soon enough whether this being known by more people actually ends up being a problem for Ryo and his team. Regardless, it looks like the remaining four episodes will take place in a new location: Whitcash Village, so we’ll see what new horrors await us there next week.
