English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “For My First Time and Girlfriend”
Overview:
Ruka has doubts about this trip, and her conversations amplify them!
Our Take:
Depending on where you’re at in your life, I’m sure you remember being in your 20s. Was I as mature as I thought I was back then? Absolutely not, but I could have at least had a conversation if I was concerned about something. When I first started reading the Rent-a-Girlfriend manga, I remember being excited because with older characters, I expected a more mature take on the rom-com harem genre. Turns out that couldn’t have been further from the truth. I was happy that the lie Ruka told about her and Kazuya having sex got brought into the light, but it would have been nice if Chizuru believed him when he said it didn’t happen. Say what you will about Kazuya, he hasn’t shown himself as a liar. Well… other than lying to his grandma, I guess, but that’s different!
Chizuru and Kazuya had a moment to try and clear things up, but we’ll see if she believes him. That’s what makes this show so frustrating: there isn’t a single character in the main cast I can point out and say I enjoy. At this point, I want Mami to blow the whole thing up and snitch on them.
