English Dub Review: A Couple of Cuckoos “I Know, Nagi-kun! Let’s Take Pictures for Memory’s Sake!”
Overview:
The school cultural festival begins, and Nagi is tasked with representing his class in a competition.
Our Take:
Nagi is chosen to represent his class in a competition, and he chooses Hiro as his partner. So far, so good because we’ve known since the beginning that he’s in love with her. She even goes so far as to obtain a DVD of a past competition at their school. It turns out that his birth mother was a competitor, and in the video, she confessed to his birth father. I don’t know why that was a performance that would win, but it did.
This led to Nagi deciding to work with Erika instead of Hiro, because he feels like it’s a family thing now. The biggest wrinkle of this whole thing is that there is a superstition that the pair that wins the competition gets married. You would think that this would make Nagi want to stay partnered with Hiro even more. It upset her that he wanted to partner with Erika, but she thought it was a good idea because then they could prove the superstition wrong by getting married later. I feel like I missed something along the way. If she loves him and he loves her, I don’t see what the problem is. But now I’m even more sure that Nagi is going to end up with Erika.
