The “King of the Hill” Revival Shatters Records, Becoming Disney’s Biggest Adult Animated Premiere in Five Years
The return of the beloved animated sitcom King of the Hill has proven to be a massive success for Disney, with its revival becoming the most-watched adult animated season premiere across Hulu and Disney+ in the last five years.
The premiere episode of the new season, which launched on Hulu on August 4, garnered 4.4 million views within its first seven days of streaming. This impressive number is calculated by dividing the total watch time by the episode’s runtime. The show also debuted at the number one spot on Hulu’s Top 15 list and has consistently remained in the top five.
The revival has also sparked renewed interest in the original series, with viewership of the previous 13 seasons increasing by 41%, or 26 million hours, since the new season was announced in March. The franchise as a whole has now accumulated over 1 billion hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+.
Additionally, the revival has been a hit on social media, with the show’s content generating more video views and engagements than any other Hulu original comedy this year. The show’s critical reception has also been positive, holding a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
