English Dub Review: Watari-kun’s XX Is About to Collapse “Worldly Desires, Begone”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Naoto continues trying to get closer to Ishihara, despite Satsuki’s meddling.
OUR TAKE
So, just in case it wasn’t clear last time, this show is most likely going to be about Naoto being tricked into more lewd accidental situations with Satsuki while trying to get the attention of Ishihara, a girl who clearly is much more mentally stable. But considering the framing of these situations and the fact that there is clearly quite a bit of business for the two of them left to resolve, it’s probably going to end up with him getting feelings for Satsuki instead. Or at least, that’s just my guess after seeing plenty of these kinds of shows and their well worn tropes. As such, I can also see that the main appeal here is teasing these more perverted scenarios that teenage boys (and men with the mindset of teenage boys) will find themselves drawn to, like Satsuki being hidden beneath Naoto’s sheets and being so down bad for him that he has an orgasm. Yeah, you read that right, a key point of this episode is the main protagonist seeding the sheets while two girls are around him, one literally clinging to him while he does this. And this is only the third episode, so who knows how the hell things are going to escalate as we get deeper into this story.
And with that in mind, I don’t really know what to think or who to root for here. I guess Ishihara since she actually seems to have her wits about her, but she’s already not in the good graces of Suzuhiro, who has her own understandable abandonment issues to work out. Speaking of, she remembers that traumatic day in the garden when Satstuki ripped up all the plants and then went to meet a big man, but when pressed about this, she says she didn’t do that. Maybe an abusive father, or even much older brother, though the way she deflects this, as well as just how she is acted, really make Satsuki feel less like a character and more just a walking male fantasy. I’m hoping that changes over the course of the show just for the sake of my own sanity, but I have my doubts that will happen. But hey, we’re a quarter of the way through this, and it wasn’t that bad so far, so let’s just grit our teeth and try to bear through the remaining nine weeks and hopefully come out the other side with our minds intact.
