English Dub Review: Teogonia “Diabo”

Overview:

Kai and his allies confront the diabo, but it is not easily defeated.

Our Take:

For a second, I thought I was still watching Bye Bye, Earth because I was confused about what was going on. There is a royal family of macaques; one is a woman, which was a surprise. I probably shouldn’t have been surprised because of the female gazelle we saw earlier, but I was not expecting a female macaque. I also didn’t expect her to be so mean, but in a world where strength is the only thing that matters, I can see why she is the way she is. She essentially enslaved a wolf god, and something about it rubbed me the wrong way.

If I was following along correctly, then Diabo is her brother, or perhaps her brother is the vessel of Diabo. Like I said, it was hard to follow and I couldn’t keep up. But we saw a flashback of her brother gaining power, and it seemed like eventually the power took on a life of its own and consumed him. This episode started to give me some Princess Mononoke vibes with how the wolf behaved and the macaques worrying about becoming mindless beasts. I believe we only have one more episode left, so I hope it ends well.
