Our Take:
It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally reached the episode that ended the “Evil Eye” compilation film on a frustrating cliffhanger. This means that I finally get to discuss one of my favorite sequences, which solidified my appreciation for the compilation movie. Granted, the “Evil Eye” arc had its share of impactful moments beforehand, including the confrontation with the Kito family and the Mongolian Death Worm. However, what really set the bar high for the arc was the showdown between Okarun and Evil Eye, the spirit that possessed Jiji in the previous episode.
Incorporating the stylized presentation and art direction from prior episodes, Okarun’s battle against Evil Eye represents another instance of the show enhancing the tension of the action through dynamic visuals, color palettes, and thrilling stakes. This sequence had me locked in throughout its duration when I first watched it in the theater, especially when Okarun went all in by punching Evil Eye repeatedly. Watching this intense battle at home didn’t have the same impact as watching it on the big screen, nor did it rival the first season’s incredible “Turbo Granny” sequence. However, it retains the fun and satisfaction of witnessing Okarun teaching Evil Eye a lesson he’ll never forget. Although, based on the preview for next week’s episode, it looked like the spirit isn’t quite done with the protagonists yet.
Of course, there’s also the matter of the Mongolian Death Worm that finally met its match in Momo and Jiji’s knowledge on “worm suicide”. Unfortunately, the worm’s death came at a worse time as the village’s volcano started to erupt, ending it on yet another cliffhanger. I was pretty upset at how it ended, though it shouldn’t come as a surprise since this is one of the shows that’s prone to utilizing cliffhanger endings to build anticipation, along with Solo Leveling. But now that we have finally caught up with the first three episodes, we can anticipate next week’s continuation of the show’s “Evil Eye” arc.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
