Adult Swim Announces “President Curtis” Spinoff from “Rick and Morty” Universe
Adult Swim has officially announced a new animated comedy, “President Curtis,” a spinoff series set in the “Rick and Morty” universe. The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con, following a surprise appearance by star Keith David.
Keith David will reprise his longtime role as President Andre Curtis, the Commander-in-Chief who has often appeared in “Rick and Morty.” The new series will follow President Curtis and his staff as they handle interdimensional diplomacy, paranormal investigations, and other crises that Rick Sanchez would never be bothered with.
The show is co-created by “Rick and Morty” executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, who will also serve as executive producers on the new series. In a statement, they expressed their excitement about exploring the universe from Curtis’s perspective. “President Curtis has always been one of our favorite characters to write – he’s the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office,” said Harmon and Siciliano.
In addition to Keith David, the series will also star Stephanie Beatriz (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) and Jim Rash (“Community”). Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen stated that “President Curtis” is a series they would have greenlit even if it wasn’t connected to “Rick and Morty,” highlighting the strength of the character and the world the team has built.
“President Curtis” will be available on Adult Swim and stream on Max, bringing fans a new look into the cosmic chaos of the “Rick and Morty” multiverse.
