English Dub Review: The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl “The Mightiest Blessing and a Gorilla Rush”
Villain Has a Point
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Leohart tells the kidnapped Sophia of his traumatic backstory.
OUR TAKE
With Leohart (whose name would imply that his powers are more Lion based than Leopard, but okay) revealed as the brains behind Daybreak, the time has come for him to share his sad upbringing to try and make us feel some small scrap of sympathy for him! And ya know what, I’m not gonna lie, it kinda accomplishes that. If only because it is finally a highlight of how messed up it is that this system is build on putting people in jobs based on randomized animal spirit selection, which was already a ridiculous idea, and the story hasn’t really don’t anything to make us feel like that made much sense as a status quo. But it’s not really about it being animal based powers, it’s more about how Leohart was taken from poverty by someone trying to exploit that system by potentially getting a strong animal spirit and making him the heir as a result. However, this guy also made the stupid decision of destroying Leohart’s old place of living and killing and hurting his hold friends, expecting him to never find out about this apparently despite him now having Leopard Powers. And bingo bango, you’ve got a terrorist organization that is hell bent on fighting this corrupt system…but because they’re killing people, they’re going too far, so any possibly point they might have to make is overshadowed by their actions and ultimately ignored.
And what’s dumber than the ever increasing trope of “well, the villain was actually correct about the inherent issues with how this society has been put together, but they killed some people so let’s just punch em” is that he tries to convince Sophia to join him. When she’s basically the last person you would want to turn about this. The only real problems she’s gone through because of this system is that she’s getting popular and a ton of lucrative opportunities despite having severe anxiety and shyness. Oh poor her. And yeah, it’s not like she wouldn’t be at least somewhat sympathetic to this problem since she has a good heart and all, but then Leohart has to go and act like a total creep, break the necklace Louis got her, and the cherry on top, using some bullcrap logic that Leopards are the sole predator of Gorillas, so she’s GOTTA listen to him. Hey, you know the ACTUAL worst predator of Gorillas? HUMAN BEINGS. Ugh, one more to go, let’s just be done with this already.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
