English Dub Review: Oshi no Ko “Private Audition”

Overview:

How will Ruby and Akane act out the theme of a liar? And how will the audition end?

Our Take:

During the audition, Ruby goes a little too far. She basically lets out her life story in a monologue about her life up until now. Then afterwards, she hits the girls with the “just kidding” and laughs it all off. Akane’s performance is basically talking shit on Frill for setting this whole thing up. She even managed to deduce what the role was for. Now that it’s known that Ai is the character they’re auditioning for, it makes Akane feel bad if she doesn’t “give” Ruby the part. Things were eventually worked out, and of course, Ruby got the part.

Meanwhile, I’m not sure if I like the way things are going for Aqua. He’s always been a little unhinged and revenge-motivated, but there was at least a line he wouldn’t cross. Usually, that line manifested in how he interacted with Kana. He always tried to make sure that she was never involved in anything and tried to keep her safe. I’m not saying that he still isn’t, but there was a part in this episode that made it sound like he was using her in a way. I hope he doesn’t fully fall off the deep end.
