English Dub Review: Liar Game “General Match”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The result of the Core Match is revealed, and the final game’s rules are explained.
Our Take:
You know, there’s actually a good reason you shouldn’t celebrate your supposed victory too early. Kikuchi, whose keen senses were deemed “unmatched”, just gave us that exact reason. I mean, what else are we really expecting from the Core Match’s conclusion? Given Akiyama’s clever tactics in beating the system, it’s obvious that he would come out on top, and in a close call, no less. With Akiyama’s Four-of-a-Kind trumping Kikuchi’s Full-House, he and his team are safe to move on to the General Match, where the gambling stakes are continuing to heat up. I swear, this Loser’s Revival round really has a thing for gambling, and this is no exception. The General Game is Stationary Roulette, where players drop the ball into a four-pocket chamber and bet on the pocket they choose. Of course, they can also choose to bet truthfully or dishonestly to make others bet incorrectly.
Unsurprisingly, this is another game that really tests people’s ability to deceive or trust, especially when it comes to Nao. Granted, Fuji and Akiyama have their share of setbacks during the previous rounds, yet they came out on top. But with Nao tackling the General Match, her lack of knowledge about what’s true could spell disaster for her team. As before, it’s very frustrating to see Nao getting tricked yet again, but not enough to make me want to quit the game early. It also doesn’t help that the other team is still beyond saving, as they’re willing to win big. Since this is the penultimate episode of this long venture, “General Match” shows the season going all in on the last game of the Revival round, and we can bet that the winner will take it all.
