Report: Terry Crews Envisions ‘The Simpsons’-Level Legacy for Animated ‘Everybody Still Hates Chris’

Actor Terry Crews is setting his sights high for the upcoming animated revival, Everybody Still Hates Chris which is now streaming on Paramount+ and has a back order for ten episodes expected to debut sometime later this year, expressing a bold ambition for the series to achieve a cultural staying power comparable to animation titans like The Simpsons and Family Guy.

In a recent interview with Bang Premier, Crews, who will return to voice the iconic character of Julius, the comically thrifty patriarch, shared his grand vision for the new show. “That is the holy grail,” Crews stated, referring to the enduring legacies of long-running animated hits. “You know, ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Family Guy’, those moments… I’m like, ‘We can do this’.”

The original live-action sitcom, “Everybody Hates Chris,” which aired from 2005 to 2009, was a critical and popular success, chronicling the teenage years of comedian Chris Rock, who also serves as narrator and executive producer for this animated iteration. Tichina Arnold is also set to return, lending her voice to the character of Rochelle, Chris’s mother. New voice talent will portray the younger characters, including Chris.

The move to animation allows the creators to bypass the limitations of live actors aging and opens up a broader canvas for comedic exaggeration and fantastical scenarios, elements Crews seems particularly excited to explore with his character.

With key original talent involved and a fresh animated approach, Crews is optimistic that this new chapter can not only recapture the magic of its predecessor but also carve out its own legendary status in the competitive world of animated sitcoms.
