Review: Krapopolis “A Pimple Favor”

Hippo has a pimple! Deliria and Hippo travel to Dermiapolis for Hippo to that ugly thing taken care of; Ty gets sculpted.

Our Take

I don’t know if this is coincidence or maybe the show has found a solid pairing between Mo Welch and director Otis Brayboy because this is the second time this season this duo has done an episode together with “Baby Boom” being the other one and they seem to make a decent tandem.

In any event, this week’s episode of Krapopolis entitled “A Pimple Favor” was really two plots with the same premise, eschewing body dis-morphia for that of confidence in the way the gods made you. It’s a common trope that we’ve seen a litany of times but as someone who was raised by people obsessed with Dr. Pimple Popper I get the play here. A whole ass plot about plastic surgery being the cure of all ills? Not in a show written in Los Angeles?? Who would’ve thought???

The real story for Krapopolis this season is these increasingly fucked up shorts that play over the closing credits. This week’s was particularly jarring for more than a few reasons and it continues to show Alex Rubens has something wrong with him but that’s exactly the type of shit that this series really needed to find itself.

Overall, a typical premise that’s well-executed and mark another decent outing for Krapopolis. The show takes a break until the 27th so we’ll see ya then!
