English Dub Review: Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms “First Love with Him”

Overview:

Mona is in love! How will this change the dynamic between her, the gang, and Medaka?

Our Take:

I enjoyed this episode, but it concerns me for season two. Mona has already admitted to herself that she’s in love with Medaka. This would normally make me excited for season two, but I know that the manga has hundreds of chapters after this, so something tells me we are going to be treading water for most of the next season. But there is one thing that might get me through that even if it will be frustrating.

If we get more moments like the one in this episode, I will gladly handle some water-treading. Mona was home sick from school for a few days, and Tomo Facetimed her and handed the phone to Medaka. The interaction they had was cute, and honestly, if the show had more moments like that and kept the ecchi stuff to a minimum, I would have liked this show a lot more. I love an ecchi show as much as the next guy, but some shows don’t feel like they fit with them. I hope that we get more episodes like this one in season two and a little less ecchi, but only time will tell.
