English Dub Review: Medalist “Howling at Night”

Overview:

Inori competes in her second Meikoh cup, but she will need to perfect the extremely difficult double Axel to progress to the next level. Meanwhile, Olympic silver medalist Shinichiro Sonidori asks Tsukasa to mentor his son, Rioh.

Our Take:

As viewers we already don’t like Rioh very much because of how he’s treated Inori. This episode didn’t do him any favors because he not only continued to treat her bad but was an asshole to Tsukasa too. That was after Tsukasa spent about five minutes praising him as well, which was something he wasn’t used to but blew up on Tsukasa. I’m not saying treating Inori that way is acceptable either, but if you come at Tsukasa like that we’re gonna fight.

Luckily, I think this is going to end up being a case of a boy not getting the chance to be a kid. Once he spends some time getting coached by Tsukasa, I hope he can chill out a bit. Meanwhile, Inori is having trouble landing her double axel, but she can do it on land. This tells Tsukasa that it’s a technique issue more than a muscle issue, which means she might be further ahead than he thought.
