English Dub Review: Trillion Game “With You; I Love Money”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Gaku goes on a date with Kirika which is really just so she can ask why he hacked Dragon Bank’s system. When he half admits that it was because he wanted to find out who made Dragon Musume, she tells him so he can recruit the guy to the Trillion Game team, but his requested salary is a bit pricey.

OUR TAKE

We’ve got a double feature for Trillion Game this week, which I guess we’re getting two trillions! With that kind of money I could afford ONE CARTON OF EGGS. But enough topical political humor, because this time it’s more the Gaku solo show as he navigates both covering up his potentially found out corporate espionage and then recruiting a new member to the team despite being nowhere NEAR capable of paying him what he wants. The first one, shown in the first of these two episodes, is mainly layered under a bunch of moments of him reflecting on him never being able to date and so not knowing what to do or wear, only to find out that things about him as a person are what Kirika finds so interesting. Also apparently Rinrin seems to be beginning to show signs of having some feelings for Gaku, which I guess is some sort of interesting if you were at all invested in the romantic side of this series about two guys trying to get super rich. But yeah, this first episode was about how Gaku has got his own charms and skills that are just as much keeping this whole operation afloat as whatever’s going on with Haru.

And what IS going on with Haru, actually? Well, we finally find out after three episodes of him being awol, which is that he was apparently helping with all the God Production stuff. Which makes sense, considering he just bought the dang thing. But the way we find out is after the second episode, which mainly involves Gaku recruiting the guy who helped make Dragon Musume and how said guy (whose name I am blanking on at the moment) had his own personal journey of doing a bunch of work and never getting the proper pay or credit for it, followed by how working with Trillion Game on the fine details of how to have a game hook you from the get go to win over newer customers who would normally toss it after a day or two has inspired him once again to work on games! So now, even without Haru’s direct involvement, the Trillion Game team is bringing in their top form, while WITH that direct involvement, they’re doing even better! And we’ve still got ten episodes left to find out how all of this comes together, so I guess I’ll see ya next week to see where that goes. I’m sure this is all leading up to something by the final episode.
