English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “A Magnificent End”

Overview:

The Divine Revolte appears at the village, while Frieren, Fern, and Methode battle Solide and Hemmung.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I understand that a show where people sprout wings and sling magic spells left and right isn’t super realistic. But up until this point, I’ve felt like the show has had a modicum of realism. Genau should have died twice over, and Stark should have died once. While facing Revolte, there was a surviving little girl that Genau rescued, only for it to turn out to be a demon in disguise. She stabbed him through the chest, but of course, he managed to keep going. Then, later, when it seemed that he and Stark had beaten Revolte, he shoved his fist through both Genau and Stark’s stomach. Eventually, Methode was able to make it back to heal them both, but it didn’t seem possible, even given all the impossible stuff that happens.

Speaking of Methode, I’m starting to love this character, and I wish Frieren had taken her up on her offer to join their party. Caitlin Glass does the voice and does a fantastic job. Methode is from a clan in the Northern Plateau that faces demons all the time. But unlike other members of her clan, Methode doesn’t just focus on offensive magic, like Frieren; she thinks that magic alone is fun. She knew a spell that would dispel the fog on the battlefield that was negating Fern’s advantage.

Once again, this series gave us another fantastic episode that would have gotten a perfect score from me if it weren’t for the silly survival of two characters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Stark and Genau survived, but their wounds could have been less severe, and the same outcome would have been possible. Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End got some great news today as well. A third season has been confirmed and will air in October of 2027. That’s a long wait considering we only get ten episodes in this season, but with the manga on hiatus for six months perhaps they want to give it time so they can do a longer season.
