English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “The Moon Fairy”

Overview:

To realize the seemingly impossible request from the foreign envoy, Maomao speaks to the “Moon Fairy” herself.

Our Take:

One cool touch about the foreign envoys was that we, the audience, could understand what they were saying, but when they spoke to Maomao, we couldn’t. They’re from a country called Shaoh and I’m not sure if it’s a fictional country or an old name for a current country. But as fast as the envoys arrived then they were gone and I hope this isn’t the last time we see them. Having a foreign element get involved with court affairs could be the drama we need.

The type of drama I don’t want is Maomao getting in trouble for making medicines. I did find it fascinating that it’s this big deal that only men can make medicine but Maomao has been doing it this whole time. It seems like a convenient development to get Maomao in trouble and the second Jinshi says “Hey don’t get caught with medicine” one of the concubines gets caught taking medicine. It’s possible the old lady that found out is cool and won’t snitch but it seems like we’re headed towards drama either way.
