The 10 Biggest Adult Animation TV and Movie Predictions for 2025
I didn’t think it was appropriate to post this with a few weeks ago Texas and California dealing with the long-term effects of climate change and my heart goes out to those who are affected. That said, with 2025 in full effect we need to look forward to the future by making our biggest predictions for adult animation TV and movies in the upcoming year.
In terms of feature-length adult animated films, we have a few things on the docket but not a lot that screams box office draw. Television is a different story. FOX is already making moves with its Animation Domination schedule, Disney+ appears to be ever so closer to merging Hulu, and we just had a Tiktok outage that had independent animation producers worried for a bit before the service received a 90-day extension to find a US-based buyer before it could potentially see another outage.
That said, the content that is on the way seems to be getting ever-so-stronger, but independent animation is also having a moment that could make rife for a number of pickups down the road from producers you may or may not have ever heard of. So what trends will take hold? What trends will go away? We have some ideas.
Top 10 Adult Animation TV and Movie Predictions for the Year 2025
1) Social video producers of independent adult animation will get development/first-look deals from major networks

It used to be Facebook and Twitter, this year it will continue to be YouTube, Tiktok, Twitch, and Snap Inc giving us the next producers of original adult animation for television. It goes without saying that Hazbin Hotel has built a road for indie animation producers to get to the promised land and it goes like this: Crowdsource–> Release on a social video sharing platform –> Promote like crazy on social networks until majors are forced to notice and then give you a deal to create your own series that becomes the biggest adult animation premiere on a major streamer’s history and you too can break into the animation industry.
You’ll see a lot of these prominent names of the underground over the course of the next year show up here on Bubbleblabber from all over the world so get ready. But, with Tiktok’s situation messy at the moment, and tech executives like Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Elon Musk(X.com), Sundar Pichai (YouTube), and Shou Zi Chew (TikTok) all seen at the Trump inauguration, liberal-leaning content creators may be looking for more traditional routes moving forward in producing their content.
2) The Object Shows trend will make its way over to television and streaming
Kind of related to the social video stars of the future, get ready to see object shows to be the future of cheap adult animated comedy that may get some additional airtime on networks like Adult Swim and even consider some of the AVOD options like Animation Plus. For those that don’t know, object shows are a class of animated comedy series mostly on the internet (one could argue Aqua Teen Hunger Force could fall into this a bit sans Carl) that derives animated characters from that of inanimate objects.
These animated comedy series are already hugely popular on the internet and are both much simpler and cheaper to produce making it perfect fanfare for the classic ageing Adult Swim audiences. What will be the next BIG internet animation sensation this year? More on that later. In the meantime, we’ll be spotlighting the big names in this sector in the coming year.
3) FOX cancels one or all of the Disney-produced animated comedies including Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and The Great North.

Last year saw FOX not bother with dealing with episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy that are too expensive being bought and paid for on their networks and they seldom promote anything from either series unless if it’s a major event like Treehouse of Horror. I could see FOX keeping the trio of Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, and Family Guy if only for the fact that all of these shows still do well at the Emmys with both Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons getting nominations last year and Family Guy being a routine syndication hero not just on cable and streaming but also on social video platforms like Tiktok where the show is a monster. This leaves The Great North as the odd man out and we haven’t heard of a season renewal just yet and with the way the network scheduled the show late last year has us seeing shades of how Housebroken and other recent series ended their runs on Animation Domination.
I could just as easily see FOX wiping off the board, and rebuilding their Animation Domination lineup around Universal Basic Guys as the lead-in. With claims of The Simpsons becoming “woke”, FOX viewers may be more open-minded in not having a number of the old-school lineup of series around anymore and instead focus on new animated comedies geared towards the predominately male audiences that tune into the NFL, NASCAR, and other sports leagues that usually lead in their coverage into that of AniDom.
4) FOX cancels one if not multiple animated comedies produced in-house

Of the lot of FOX’s self-produced primetime animated comedies, Universal Basic Guys is the only true winner. Garnering ratings nearly surpassing that of The Simpsons on a weekly basis and feverishly feeding that football audience that is already on the network makes for a great marriage that will pay off in dividends in the decades to come. With that said, Grimsburg and Krapopolis look to be on the chopping block.
At the very least, Grimsburg is attempting to right the ship, adding Martin Short to the cast is the type of move that could very well get you another season. Together with Krapopolis, FOX is at least trying to stir up some additional interest by sending both animated comedies to Hulu and Netflix in syndication deals so we’ll see if that will help with the viewership at all.
Krapopolis appears to be the odd man out either way. While at first a test rat for FOX’s potential interest in the crypto markets, the show’s second season clearly put any NFT involvement out to pasture and subsequently went on to be the lowest-rated animated non CW series of Fall 2024 and they still have a third season ordered. Moreover, Dan Harmon’s first-look deal with FOX for animation doesn’t appear to be continuing anytime soon since the Rick and Morty co-creator has since had animated comedies premiere on FXX and Apple TV+, both canceled after one season, and will soon have another on Netflix later this year. With all of this loss, it kinda makes you wonder who was the REAL creative co-creator behind Rick and Morty (it was always Justin Roiland).
5) ABC Network launches an animated series, if not, an entire block of animation by Fall of 2025

I think the latter part of this prediction may be a bit out there, but I think ABC considers putting one if not all of it’s animated comedies from FOX on Friday Nights as part of a return of TGIF in Fall 2025 in conjunction of a debut of a brand-new series altogether. I think Disney spins off its cable networks ala what Comcast did with SpinCo and keeps ABC then reinvest more content into an aging but steadily improving way in which people get content. With kids complaining about paying too much for streaming services, OTA (over-the-air) access to broadcast TV will revitalize the broadcast production economy and allow for further investment from the majors to take place. Plus there’s no way Disney lets go of that killer Time Square NYC real estate it has with the ABC News building.
6) Justin Roiland announces a new animated project and deal

It’s time. After Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland successfully helped launch Solar Opposites on Hulu, Michael Cusack on Adult Swim, and a gaming company called Squanchie games that hasn’t had a hit since his departure. There’s a reason…he’s the creative genius behind it all. And despite what you think of him, recent lessons with the likes of Marilyn Manson, Justin Baldoni (still to be seen but homie’s putting up a fight), Johnny Depp, Beau DeMayo and others should show just because there are allegations of anything it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s anything there, and in most cases, there isn’t. Justin was deservedly cleared of all past legal charges and as a result it’s time for Justin Roiland to reclaim his path back into the spotlight.
If he doesn’t reclaim the voice jobs of the show’s titular characters for Rick and Morty, Justin could probably get a first-look deal somewhere be it FOX, the Skydance-owned Paramount, Netflix or another up-and-coming streamer looking to make a splash. The guy’s fan base is still very ardent and constantly spams Adult Swim’s Reddits and social channels (most of which are also fading given that the likes of X, Meta, and Tiktok are falling out of favor) for his return to the show where the guy made his name and he’s earned it.
7) Beau DeMayo (X-Men ’97) gets a favorable settlement from Disney after termination from X-Men ’97
Beau DeMayo is a good example of not letting cancel culture derail your career. Is it odd that the guy takes a bunch of half-naked selfies and blasts them all over the internet…sure. It’s not my cup of tea. But how is that different than when women post thirst trap content for the world to see and these people subsequently are gainfully employed? There shouldn’t be double standards for social media content if it isn’t hurting anyone.
Whether or not Beau is guilty of anything Disney claims should through the wash sometime later this year, but with the tea that Beau has been dropping on X about questionable creative decisions the media conglomerate has made in regards to their handling of Marvel characters, the X-Men ’97 creator could very well find himself with a favorable deal that would see Disney actually admit that they made a mistake and shouldn’t have messed with him in the first place.
8) Paramount and WB Discovery settle South Park suit, more new episodes of the show resume but the show will permanently leave MAX.
Matt Stone says we should be expecting new South Park content as soon as Spring 2025 with the release of an exclusive Paramount+ special followed by a proper season of the series coming by the Fall. By then, hopefully this lawsuit between WBD and Paramount will settle and the two sides can agree to how they handle the red-headed brat known as South Park for the foreseeable future and we can all go back to having fun. With Skydance the new owners of Paramount and expecting to spin-off their own cable networks like MTV, Comedy Central, and others probably similarly to the way Comcast did SpinCo, Skydance’s mission will be driving towards profitability before the end of the year. To do that, they’ll need to add the full library of South Park to Pluto TV and Paramount+ as the show’s streaming contract with MAX winds down.
With that said, don’t expect MAX to renew the streaming rights of this series. For one, they don’t deserve it, but more importantly I’d rather see WB Discovery focus the investments on new and existing content endeavors that won’t see the likes of the disastrous Uzumaki production issues show up again on future projects.
9) Machinima takes a big leap in popularity this year
I’ll talk about the new technologies that may power this in a minute, but expect to see the machinima art form of adult animation take on another level in the next year. I think it’s going to come by way of a number of new genres including comedy but expect to see drama, horror, and action genres of machinima to get their due before the end of the year. Late last year we’ve seen the documentary category take shape with the very popular Netflix doc The Remarkable Life of Ibelin and this year we got the fantastic Grand Theft Hamlet. Slated to make an appearance at film festivals later this year, look out for Knit’s Island.
One could make the argument that Amazon’s Secret Level was very much a machinima given that the entire run of shorts produced by Blur Studios were done via Unreal Engine which was, by definition, a gaming engine and while a lot of cut scenes may not seem like “in-game” produced such as we seen from say a Red vs Blue, the lines are certainly blurring and probably the safer bet to produce a full series of say God of War.
Expect to see both unscripted and scripted machinima to be produced in droves in the coming year by way of Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, Fortnite, and others which leads us into…
10) Web3 tech, AI, and more will factor more into adult animation

Animated content coming from live-service game worlds like Metaverse, Fortnite, and more could be considered in line with the upswing of machinima that we were just talking about but expect more animated experiences to come from a variety of different web3 experiences with AI being a big factor as well.
Yes, we will see fully-formed AI productions this year, we have quite a few on our docket that we are looking forward to covering in the coming year. Movies, TV shows, and more will not be the same and we see AI working not only independent of but in conjunction with already installed programs like Blender, Adobe (already built-in), and others that will allow the democratization of content creation the likes of which have never been seen before. Hollywood isn’t the only place in the world to be a creator nowadays, AI will continue to help along the different avenues like crypto currency in supercharging animated projects and allowing them to be profitable without the need for a network or a premium streamer. Independent animation streamers are a dime-a-dozen and will be looking for the creators that help them stand out from the pack.
My Love Affair with Marriage was great! I hope this gets enough of a release in the US for me to be able to go to it in theatres.
