English Dub Review: Demon Lord 2099 “The Hero’s Battle” “The Demon Lord’s Resurrection”

Overview:

The Immortal Furnace lies directly below the Aether Reactor of Shinjuku, and Machina flies into a rage when Marcus reveals an appalling truth about immortals. Meanwhile, Kinohara stands in the way of Veltol’s group. After Gram takes an attack for him, Veltol issues his orders.

Trusting Gram to handle Kinohara, Veltol reaches the Immortal Furnace. He grills Marcus about his betrayal of the immortals and why he kidnapped Machina. The legendary Demon Lord faces Shinjuku’s ruler. The former lord and vassal cross blades in this new world.

Our Take:

I’m not sure what’s scarier, there is a furnace that turns the spiritual energy of immortals into power or the fact that I could see some companies do something like that in the real world and get away with it. I would not be surprised if someone said “Hey we just need to sacrifice these ten people a year and we’ll have unlimited power” and the whole world jumps on board. Heck, I’m thinking about it and I might take a deal like that. We’re truly living in the darkest timeline where something like that is okay. That got a little preachy and for that, I apologize but one of the best things about art is that it gets us thinking about our world.

I’m glad they gave us two episodes at this point because I wanted to see what Veltol was going to do to Marcus for laying hands on Machina. I have to admit it’s kind of nice to be on this side of a character saying “You only reached my second form” because seeing a villain do it can be terrifying.

This show has been a surprise hit for me, I’ve enjoyed every episode and if the implications in this episode keep up then I’ll be ecstatic for this series. Veltol and Machina said “I love you” to each other and I’m not sure what kind of love they meant. But I’m going to hope they mean romantic love and I’m look forward to each episode from here on.
