English Dub Review: Trillion Game “Girl’S Gaze”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Haru and Gaku conclude the competition.
OUR TAKE
We are more than a handful of episodes into the series now and I think I can safely say that these flashforward opening scenes really just aren’t adding a whole lot. It’s just Gaku and his assistant (who I guess is the daughter of the guy in the hat and sunglasses in the “past”) handling some random celebrity thing like encountering paparazzi or picking out a giant house. Gaku looks just about exactly the same and I THINK we’re meant to take Haru’s absence as some sort of big mystery, but that could mean anything and, frankly, Haru’s not all that fascinating of a character that his presence is missed all that much. And none of that is helped by the fact that we still have zero idea what the hell got either of them to be as rich as they end up becoming. Like I know I have been harping on this point but it’s kind of important to the context of the story, which are now just about a fifth of the way through as of the end of this episode. By this point, I should not be wondering what the hell we’re doing here and why any of this is happening!
Anyway, this episode seems to wrap up the hacking competition that got kicked off a couple weeks ago, with Haru making use of not just his silver tongue but also his ability to effectively cheat without getting caught. In this case, he apparently brought his own router to activate right after competition began, as well as giving Gaku all of the passwords to everyone else’s servers so he can easily take over all of their stuff and take their points. This would be kind of neat of a strategy…if I hadn’t been hacked recently, meaning this gambit actually gave me a little bit of PTSD, thinking about how I had to grapple with my email being taken over by some asshole who cost me a job, and just in case you haven’t noticed, there has been another recent event that’s stressing out more people, myself included. But the point of this within the story is to show that this duo are resourceful in multiple ways, something that brings Kirika back from the brink of disinterest. So hooray, their business dreams live another day. Now, where does all of this go from here? Find out next week.
