English Dub Review: The Misfit of Demon King Academy “The Dream That God Saw”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The battle between Dilhade and Giordal intensifies! However, Anos becomes suspicious of Giordal’s small fighting force. After seeing Cannibal flying out of the castle and noticing he has eaten the song of a Divine Dragon, Anos comes to one final conclusion. The 1,500 years of prayer that Giordal had continued for so long…was a never-ending barrier separating the two irreconcilable nations.
Our Take:
It took us over a year to reach this point, but we finally did it. We’ve reached the end of the show’s second season. That’s not to say it’s not without its merits, but the multiple delays caused by the COVID pandemic or something else have really degraded people’s interest in The Misfit of Demon King Academy, including mine. That, and the crappy CGI effects for the dragons. Seriously, did they not have much time to make them look less uncanny? Regardless, the final battle of the season is here, and I can thank the gods for that.
So, how does the finale turn out after waiting so long? Well, I wouldn’t say it’s a fantastic way of closing off Anos’ recent adventure, but it was undoubtedly sweet. Amid Anos’ battle against Golroana and Liebarschend, the episode reveals that Anos’ memories of his younger sister Arcana are indeed fake due to Arcana being the Goddess of Absurdity. However, despite being betrayed, Anos still wants Arcana to be his sister, making her dream of having a big brother a reality.
This heartwarming moment doesn’t match the emotional depth of the season’s first half regarding Shin and Leno. However, it’s uplifting enough to bypass the show’s convoluted world-building and conclude another divisive season. Based on what I’ve seen, I honestly prefer the first half of season two over the second half. Yes, they both share similar flaws, such as the show’s world-building, but the first half had more merits in its characters and narrative to make it tolerable. On the other hand, the second half didn’t have enough to overshadow most of its usual problems, including the CGI effects. I’ll explain further in my upcoming season review, which certainly has its share of ups and downs regarding the journey itself.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
