English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “A Story I Won’t See Coming”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Anno Un recalls how he found the G-Liner artifact that gave him knowledge of every memory in this loop of the timeline, as well as activated his Negator powers that made him unable to be seen by those around him, including his own mother. Despite this, he used his new knowledge of the future to become a manga author and pinpoints the exact moment he can try and change the future: the day Andy and Fuuko were sent to defeat UMA Autumn. While Fuuko exits Andy’s memories (which also attract Autumn to their location) Rip, Unseen, and a new member named Bunny arrive in Anno’s house and try to kill them, but Andy awakens in time to kill Unseen.
OUR TAKE
Okay, so we did actually get some real time progress on the Autumn and Under stuff this episode like I thought we would! It’s also not as big a part of the episode as I thought, with a portion of it being devoted to Anno Un’s backstory, which is equal parts tragic, interesting, and kinda confusing. We see how gaining the pen activated his powers and suddenly made him literally inconceivable by the rest of the world, including his mom who we see going out of her mind with worry when she thinks he’s missing. He even sits with her for a long time trying to convince her that he’s there. HOWEVER, we also see early on that he can still interact with physical objects, hence why he’s able to read books, change clothes, and not fade through walls like he does with people. Apparently his power only activates if he is using his original identity, hence the change to a pen name, but I can’t imagine there wasn’t some work around to be able to tell his mom that he was alright somehow. That’s probably the most glaring issue out of all of this, at least to me, but maybe I’m just overthinking it.
But through this flashback, we also get to see how he gained all of this info about the future that he would then use for his manga, as well as how he apparently stalked Andy for awhile and even found him before Fuuko did. He was apparently learning how to use sword techniques from a random feudal era looking girl who is too specifically designed to not show up again somehow, but that’s beside the point. Apparently Anno planned for this exact moment in the timeline to make a move where Fuuko would survive and this has succeeded, at least for now, and we finally got to see what Unseen looked like, not that what he looked like was exactly on anyone’s top list of things that they needed to figure out. But hey, one member of Under down and plenty more to go, including a character seen in the OP who only is showing up now, Bunny, whose deal is that…she wears a round bunny suit. With all of that out of the way, we’ve got one more episode left to wrap up this arc and this season, so we’ll see how that works out next week for the season finale of Undead Unluck.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
