OUR TAKE

Just like last week’s first episode, this one is also pretty much just about certain corners of the world reacting and adjusting to the major shake ups that occurred during Walpurgis, with little to no involvement from any of the main cast, including Rimiru. This does feel a bit like the beginning of last season too, in that there seems to be less focus on major plot progression and simply having focus on seeing how the climactic events of the end of the previous season are shifting things around in smaller ways. Only this time things were actually so big that we apparently need at least a few episodes just about minor characters in other kingdoms to set up their plans for later on in the story. Last week was focus on things following up with the Kingdom of Falmuth, which continue here, but this time focuses on the Western Holy Empire, the other anti-monster country that was a major threat last season, who ironically also all serve a monster, Luminous Valentine, but call her a god. But the real reason for this is that it gives us a bit more time with Hinata, the former student of Shizuku who had that huge fight with Rimiru last season and is taking up a lot of promotional material and opening.

Clearly, the main thing being set up here is an eventual rematch between these two. She was the only one to really be on even footing with Rimiru, she has a personal connection to him through Shizuku, and there’s a grudge match considering she played a part in the invasion that led to Shion’s death. I mean, she got better, but still. Except NOW, and in fact only shortly after that fight, Rimiru got a MAJOR power upgrade to Demon Lord, so if he and Hinata are meant to cross swords again, she’s going to need to build up her power as well. How exactly she’s going to make that jump is unclear, but the gears are most certainly in motion for this eventual duel, likely later this season. Oh yeah, and the clowns and Yuuki, who were working with the Demon Lord Rimiru absorbed, are also probably plotting some stuff in the background. I honestly don’t know how important they’ll be since they’ve just been hanging around and not being active in main events. Next episode finally gives us stuff with the main cast, so let’s look forward to seeing some plot progression.
