English Dub Review: Clevatess “Magical Talent”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Alicia dives into untold depths to reclaim a Regalia and Clen battles the vicious beast controlled by the bandits.
OUR TAKE
Whew, okay, looks like we’re finally done with all this stuff with the bandits. I mean, at the very least, the head bandit Broco has been killed (cut in half while invisible, to be specific) and the monster, Betty, has also been defeated, so aside from the giant fish known as the Ancient One (not played by Tilda Swinton), that does it for major threats in this area, so while there may be a little bit of time spent getting out of this cave, the arc is effectively done. And as an ending to an arc, it at least gave me some cathartic moments to mostly wash out the utter despair the previous two episodes provided. For one, Alicia finds one of the lost Regalia, ancient magical weapons with special abilities just like those each of the warriors that Alicia fought beside also possessed, but apparently there are still a bunch just hanging around. So, now Alicia has one to replace the one she lost when she died. Meaning that, at the very least, fight scenes should look a bit cooler as we move through the story, or at least that seems like what could potentially happen if all is right with the world.
We also get some further reiteration about Clen/Clevatess’ position on human beings and Luna’s purpose in that. At the start of the series, Clen had zero reason to keep humans around, especially when a bunch of them came and (in a futile attempt) tried to have him killed. But finding Luna gave him reason to think that maybe humans deserved a chance to be better and grow as a species. However, during the period where Luna is lost, Clen makes clear to Alicia in no certain terms that if any harm comes to Luna, and if a mere innocent is lost to the savagery of mankind, they aren’t getting another chance. Not sure where that’s going or if Luna will grow into a character of his own beyond a crying baby (unlikely given we’re already a third of the way through the series at this point), but we’ll see. Oh, and we have a new addition to the party: Nell, that sad lady who got mangled in stomach acid last week, has been recovered by Clen and is now known as Nelluru, getting a name change for some inexplicable reason. How come Alicia didn’t get a different name?
