English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “United We Negate”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
With their seats in the Union secured, Fuuko and Andy decide they’ll try and work their way up in the ranks to change the organization from within so no one has to die like Gina did. They soon meet the other members, among them Shen, who they met before, and the leader, Juiz d’Arc. They also learn that the group is guided on missions by a floating book called Apocalypse, and those who complete the hardest missions gets to lead the group. The first mission Fuuko and Andy go on sends them on a chose for UMA called Spoil, but then they find another UMA who ends up becoming Andy’s clothes so he doesn’t have his dick out all the time.
OUR TAKE
We now seem to begin the story properly, with Fuuko and Andy finding their place in the Union, meeting the other members who will no doubt become important characters later, and establish Fuuko’s goal to change the Union for the better, which by extension is now Andy’s goal since it will probably make her fall for him, which, as you may recall, will make the unluck be so strong it may finally kill him. Does everyone remember that? We’re five episodes in and there is already SO MUCH to keep track of, including a ton of world-building about the supernatural elements and a bunch of terminology that I am honestly already having trouble remembering. So we have Negators, who are all the super-powered people whose powers all begin with UN and negate some aspect of things in some roundabout way. And now we have UMAs, who MAY be people, or may be artifacts, but are all living, including this book that tells all of these people to go on missions or else something terrible will occur. I mean…I’m still invested in things, I like the designs and I like the animation and I like the music, but it’s just getting to be a LOT, you know?
The good news is that this being a 24+ episode season means that we have plenty of time to flesh this out and hopefully make it easier to understand (if indeed it is meant to be understood, haha). We have seven new characters, as well as Shen, a returning one who we get to know a bit better, and Juiz is most definitely going to be a complicated character who will both be an ally while also being an obstacle for Fuuko (and Andy to a lesser extent). It’s nice to see Fuuko having some goals that she can pursue, even if they seem pretty lofty right now. I imagine the Fuuko we see when she fully takes over the Union is going to be a much more hardened and wise than the one we see now, as well as someone who is fully ready to see Andy die when they have their fateful death fuck. That’s right, I’m calling it a Fateful Death Fuck. It’s actually kinda nice to see the possible routes of where this story could go, but I’m sure there’s plenty of room for twists and turns along the way.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
