English Dub Review: The Faraway Paladin The Lord of the Rust Mountains “The Mad Forest”
Overview:
Will and Menel investigate why the seasons are not changing as they should in the surrounding forest. Two wise Lords of the Forest may have the answers they seek… as well as a warning of what’s yet to come.
Our Take:
I love shows like this and Mushoku Tensei, I like to call them “isekai lite” because the isekai aspect of the series isn’t as big a deal as in others. Will has a few memories that pop up of his past life which is a bit different from Rudeus in Mushoku Tensei who has all of his past memories but it’s still interesting. Isekai has become such a big genre that it makes sense there are all different kinds but I think this might be my favorite.
Poor Will and Menel keep getting these difficult requests but to be fair they keep knocking them out of the park. Apparently, one day Menel may become a “Lord of the Forest” himself. I don’t know if that means he will become a tree as well or something else but this series has some interesting plot hooks it can use. Really the only thing that has been missing thus far for me is some romance. I also like that Will is a spear user, I’m usually not a fan of that but we have so many sword guys in fantasy that seeing someone use a spear is a bit refreshing.
