English Dub Review: The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You “The 2 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really Love You (98 to Go)”

Overview:

Rentarou Aijou has been rejected by 100 girls throughout his life. However, his luck is about to change.

Our Take:

Rentarou Aijou just experienced his 100th rejection in his young life. He goes to a shrine to pray that he’ll find, and he meets the shrine’s god. He tells Aijou that he will find 100 soulmates during his time in high school. Aijou is ecstatic at first, but he later finds out that this might not be as good of a situation as he initially thought.

He literally bumps into Hakari Hanazono and Karane Inda, who both immediately fall in love with Aijou. Inda is a tsundere who doesn’t resort to violence, which is refreshing. Hanazono is desperate for things like indirect kisses. Her speech pattern is so formal and refined, which makes this behavior a surprise. They both ask Aijou out and he has to make an important decision. In fact, that decision is even more imperative than Aijou could have ever imagined.

Aijou himself is a funny protagonist. He’s a nice guy, and he even brutally beats himself up whenever he thinks he’s hurt someone. It’s baffling why he’s been reject so many times, but at least he won’t have that problem anymore.

This first episode is off the wall hilarious. It’s constantly breaking the fourth wall, which I always get a kick out of. The characters mention time skips, point out character archetypes and the shrine god even tells Aijou not to anger the manga readers. I’m a fan of this type of humor, so I really enjoy these jokes and the delivery.

I like all three of the main characters so far, and it’s obvious that more will be introduced very shortly. I highly doubt that we’ll see all 100 of Aijou’s love interests in this season, but I am curious to see how many of them we will meet. The two we have now are drastically different from each other, so I’m looking forward to seeing the amount of variety we’ll see among the characters.
