English Dub Review: Sweet Reincarnation “Sweet Matchmaking Photos and Twin Ladies”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Casserole and Pastry have a chance to make some money by orchestrating a match between the Kaldecek and Hubarek families. But when assassins move to take out the bride-to-be, they’ll have to come up with a new scheme to keep her safe.
Our Take:
Pastry’s replication magic is handy in making enough money to repair the village. With the “matchmaking pictures” idea in tow and Brioche agreeing to pay for the damages, Casserole and Pastry are all set for business. Their next step in earning cash has the father/son duo matchmaking the two royal families: Kaldecek and Hubarek. Unfortunately, this task is easier said than done, as the Hubarek family is in a feud with their neighboring duchy. Using his political awareness, Pastry convinces Lord Kaldecek about Margrave Hubarek’s attempts to use his daughter Petra’s marriage to gain control of Kaldecek’s army. This resulted in Kaldecek meeting with Margrave so his timid and loud grandson, Squale, could meet Petra in person.
The plan worked wonderfully, as Squale and Petra are secretly engaged days later. However, this is where things get challenging for the young, determined sweetmaker. Casserole and Pastry are hired to escort Petra to the capital for a coming-of-age ceremony while preventing the church from spreading the news about the secret engagement. So how do they kill two birds with one stone, you ask? For Pastry, the answer’s quite simple: hiding Petra in the church’s sanctification chamber until the engagement is announced. But, of course, their journey gets interrupted by a group of assassins, ready to take out Squale’s future wife and her gloomy twin sister, Licorice Hubarek.
Pastry and Casserole quickly protected the sisters from the assassins, but that’s just the start of their quest to ensure these two royal lovers wed. However, the episode’s conclusion reveals that Squale and Petra aren’t the only ones feeling the love, as Licorice may have also felt it towards Pastry. So it appears that Pastry might have to choose between his love for sweets and Licorice if my indication is correct.
Speaking of sweets, the episode also showcases Casserole discovering through Pastry’s bill that his son wasted his money on sweets. The result is a furious father bopping Pastry on the noggin. It doesn’t hinder the father/son relationship too much, but it was admittedly amusing seeing Pastry getting conked by Casserole for a tiny mishap. Besides that, the episode suffered a bit from a couple of animation errors, in which some of the characters’ faces are missing, including Kaldecek and Squale. It also continues to display the series’s derivative yet watchable isekai narrative despite its addition of sweets.
