English Dub Review: Mistress Kanan Is Devilishly Easy “Kanan’s Summer Break”

Overview:

Kanan tutors Kyougi and Nadeko. Nadeko lusts for Kanan’s scorn. All the girls shop for swimsuits together.

Our Take:

So umm… I’m used to love triangles involving childhood friends, but this is a new one for me. Maybe I haven’t watched enough anime, but typically, we would have Nadeko being into Kyougi and being upset with Kanan for stealing him or something. In this show, it seems that Nadeko is not only into Kanan, but she has a bit of a masochist fetish. Some of the fan service stuff has been annoying, I’ll admit, but when it subverts a trope I’m expecting, I kind of enjoy that.

Kyougi is getting the chance to visit Kanan’s home in Hell. Ami and Jeanne join them on the trip. This is when we got to a part I couldn’t stop laughing during. Jeanne and Kanan both have to use the bathroom, but don’t want to use it for different reasons. Kanan doesn’t want to use the restroom in front of Kyougi, and Jeanne doesn’t want to leave Kanan alone with Kyougi. I won’t focus on the fact that she’s left him alone with her before, but that’s neither here nor there. Either way, this led to one of the funniest scenes in the series. If you’ve ever watched Golden Kamuy, it has humor similar to that. It was a fun episode, and I’m looking forward to meeting Kanan’s family almost as much as Kyougi probably is. I didn’t think Kyougi knew that Kanan was a devil, but I must have been wrong.
