Space Junk Exclusive: “Workaholics” co creator Dominic Russo and Tony Cavalero (“Righteous Gemstones”) Straddling The Line Between Web3 And The Old Way Of Doing Things
What better time than now to interview the people behind a new animated comedy series that features an AI-voiced robot than during a WGA (and soon SAG-AFTRA) strike where one of the worries is AI!
Toonstar has been a ground-breaking studio in this regard. While uninformed critics mocked NFT’s during the pandemic years, Toonstar was building a web3 storytelling model that also gives NFT holders the ability to participate in narrative development, meaning fans drive the story at the end of each episode. Certainly a great way to lower the gates of entry into show business, web3 tech is slowly threatening the established order of things.
Written by “Workaholics” co creator Dominic Russo and starring Jon Heder (“Napoleon Dynamite”) and Tony Cavalero (“Righteous Gemstones”), “Space Junk” takes a comedic look at the very real and timely problem of garbage in space. It is also the first animated series that features a character completely voiced by AI generated software, a robot named Wellbecca.
To get both sides of this very real deal, we talk to Dominic and Tony about the new adult animated comedy series that has already streamed a very funny first episode that features Thackeray (Heder) who is doing his best to run the family business, which is responsible for collecting garbage in space, when employees Hank (Cavalero) and Fergus (Byron Marc Newsome) can’t seem to get their priorities straight. Also, Thackery’s robot girlfriend finds out she’s pregnant.
Watch the first episode of Space Junk here and watch below our interview with the aforementioned people that have helped bring this new franchise to life.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
