English Dub Review: My Clueless First Friend “Call Me the Grim Reaper”

Overview:

Nishimura and Takada solidify their friendship and spend the rest of their summer vacation together.

Our Take:

Takada avoids Nishimura after he finds out about her mother. She finally gets the chance to talk to him and he tells her that he won’t call her the grim reaper anymore. He thinks he upsets her when he does, but Nishimura actually likes it when Takada calls her that. This talk makes their friendship even stronger.

Afterwards, they meet up with Hino and go to a festival together. We see them all enjoy the festivities as friends. Takada and Nishimura have more fun during the summer too, such as taking pictures for a contest. The highlight of the episode for me has to be when Takada places a toy ring on Nishimura’s finger. It’s a token of their friendship, but it’s such a sweet moment.

This show continues to be incredibly wholesome. Just when I think these two can’t get any more adorable, the show finds a way to prove me wrong. I said that I liked the bit of tension between Takada and Nishimura in the previous episode. I stand by that, but I also think this resolution is great. There are no hard feelings and it feels like their friendship is even stronger now than it was before.

I feel like Nishimura blushes more in this episode than she has in any of the previous ones, but I could be wrong. Regardless, it never gets old. It doesn’t matter how many times Takada calls Nishimura cute or awesome or just says something surprisingly smooth. He always finds new ways to make wholesome moments. He even slips a ring on Nishimura’s finger. It’s a toy ring and there’s no way Takada thinks of it more than a symbol of friendship. However, the sentiment is still there.
