Our Take

This time around, we finally get to see some issues with certain characters abusing the akuruka powers and the consequences it starts to have on an individual. Knowing Kuon’s bloodline, she did inherit the strongest elements of both parents. Her fire and ice powers remain prominent from what I researched about this game adaptation.

I also wasn’t expecting them to pull out the masks so quickly but even more so it became a full battle to the death. Up until now, the masks being pulled out was the big war-ending moment, so the woman who doesn’t even actively fight coming and stopping them literally mid-punch is going to shift some power balances here.

Overall, this episode felt slightly awkward though with the way we got a narrated time skip over the end of the big battle they were leading up to until they arrived at the gates. It feels like lots of other things should be happening between that time for the time skip to feel more significant. It’s also getting to the hype part of the show now and Kuon’s reveal threw everyone off but in a good way. The real question is, why is the rest of the cast so accepting of what happened? Hopefully, they’ll circle back to this. Especially on Anju’s end…
