English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Good Day For a Departure/ Oyuki/ Ataru Retires”

Overview:

They say all’s fair in love and war, and that’s why Lum drags Ataru kicking and screaming onto a battlefield!

Our Take:

Ataru might be the most annoying “protagonist” in just about any anime I’ve watched. I can usually dig deep and find something to like about any character but I can’t think of any redeeming quality Ataru has. I’m aware that this is from a different time but it’s just been a frustrating watch so far. If I was still a salty single person I would probably hate this anime even more because why do these girls still carry so much affection for this jackass? Shinobu is the only one that has seemingly moved on but she still takes care of him when he’s sick, I will chalk that up to her just being a good person/friend.

The absolute best thing about this anime so far is the opening and ending songs. They are “aiue” by MAISONdes feat. Minami & SAKURAmoti for the opening and “Tokyo Shandy Rendez-vous” by MAISONdes feat. KAF & Tsumiki for the ending. The songs are very catchy and I listen to them all the time. The animation for the opening is especially fun to watch. I usually look at my phone or something during openings but I always find myself watching that one.
