FXX’s “Poorly Drawn Lines” No Go For Season Two

For what it’s worth, FXX’s Cake series seemed to be worth its weight, however, it looks as though most of the projects that were associated with the series are no longer happening. Ironically, My Year Of Dicks looks to be the sleeper given that it never actually aired with the series, but, FX Productions still released the series of shorts into one longer short film that is now in contention for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Other productions from Cake that actually went far include Dicktown which not only featured a single season as part of the Cake lineup, but it’s own standalone second season that premiered in 2022. Another shorts series, strongly received, that premiered on Cake in 2021 was Poorly Drawn Lines. Unfortunately, we now know the future of that animated series as it was just announced that there will NOT be a second season.

For those that don’t know, Poorly Drawn Lines followed the fantastical misadventures of Ernesto, Tanya, and Kevin—three twenty-something best friends navigating early adulthood in a world where the strange and surreal are an everyday thing. Ten episodes aired as part of FXX’s Cake anthology series that featured live-action and animated series jockeying for a possible spin-off series that would air on FXX.
