English Dub Review: Parallel World Pharmacy “The Miracle at L’Estacque”

Overview:

Farma continues treating those who have been infected with the black death. However, there seems to be more to the epidemic than he originally thought.

Our Take:

Farma makes it to the location where the worst cases are being kept. He manages to save about half of the patients, but unfortunately, not everyone pulls through. They find surviving members of the infected ship’s crew. After interrogating them, the crew members confess that they transported squirrels from the island where the epidemic originated. Farma then theorizes that this whole thing has been planned.

Back at the capital, it is shown that Farma’s hunch is correct. An attack is waged on the capital and the squirrels in question are released into the city. Now the guards and Farma’s team have to do whatever they can to stop them from completely infecting the capital.

There’s also a subplot that involves Professor Casper, a researcher who’s a year away from retiring. Most people aren’t interested in asking for her help due to her age. However, Bruno finds the perfect job for her. He needs her expertise with microorganisms to help create medicine. In doing so, this will delay her retirement and make her useful much longer.

This episode takes some interesting twists and turns. It was already hinted at that the black plague infection was a pre-planned assault. However, it’s nice to actually get confirmation of that.

It’s also interesting to see how merciful Farma can be to people who may not deserve it. The guards are ready to leave the ship’s crew for dead since they’ve more than likely been infected. However, Farma can’t bring himself to do that and gives them the proper medicine.

We don’t get to learn a lot about Professor Casper, but I’ve enjoyed every time characters in this show get a new opportunity when all hope seems lost. This is no exception and it’s honestly something I hoped to see a little more since it’s handled so well.

This is the penultimate episode for the season, so I’m curious to see how the whole black plague epidemic will turn out. More importantly, I want to see the showdown with the one who’s responsible.
