English Dub Review: Remake Our Life! “We’ll Figure It Out”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tsurayuki’s financial troubles start to weigh on his health, but Kyoya has a plan that might be just what his housemates needs.

Our Take:
After a fun couple of days at the school festival, it’s time for the students to get back into business. By that, I mean school business. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any more personal issues for them to handle besides their projects.
The series’s first half concludes by focusing on Tsurayuki’s main dilemma following Nanako’s struggle to follow her true passion. The episode sees Tsurayuki constantly skipping classes to work at his part-time jobs. This raises concern for his house residents when his anxiety catches up and causes him to collapse. After learning that Tsurayuki is working to pay for his tuition, Kyoya comes up with an idea to help him get money faster and reduce his stress. He decides to create a dojin game to be sold through Keiko’s circle and use the profits to pay for Tsurayuki’s tuition.
“We’ll Figure It Out” continues this similar routine by further developing the supporting characters amid their different projects. The last couple of episodes centered on Nanako’s background and her struggle to make singing her passion after having difficulty with her acting talents or lack thereof. Her journey concluded with Nanako overcoming her fear and performing in front of a large audience at the festival’s concert.
This episode now shifts our attention to Tsurayuki, as we see that there’s more to him than we realized. As mentioned before, Tsurayuki has been working non-stop to pay off his tuition and continue his career in script writing, meaning that he had to miss plenty of classes to earn money faster. Additionally, Tsurayuki comes from a family with a long line of doctors. However, he’s more interested in writing screenplays than being a doctor, so he runs away from home to pursue his career.
Most of the episode’s plot sees Kyoya and the others preparing to make a dojin game, with the genre being a school story. If you play these types of games, you’ll probably know how “explicit” they can be. Unfortunately, the residents (minus Kyoya) haven’t had much experience with them, leading to some of the most hysterical reactions in the show, especially from Tsurayuki and Nanako. However, the process turned out to be more complicated than they thought, as they worked day and night but hardly went anywhere regarding Tsurayuki’s script. Even worse, they got a surprise visit from someone from Tsurayuki’s childhood, Sayuri Jisshoji, who’s also his fiancee.
“We’ll Figure It Out” mixed its formula up by having the characters work on a video game instead of a short film. The result remains the same as in the previous episodes: a fun and character-driven chapter exploring the importance of helping others in need, even if they don’t want it. It is also a solid conclusion to the show’s first half, thanks to its final surprise from Tsurayuki’s fiancee.
This show definitely has plenty of moments that I surprisingly enjoyed so far, ranging from its charming characters to its story. Despite the lack of movie-related scenarios in the last two episodes, I like what “Remake Our Life” has offered in its time-traveling element regarding those moments. I’m already hoping that its second half would impress me as well.
