WB Discovery News: Toonami ; Comic-Con 2022 Updates

WB Discovery is putting on a huge show at SDCC 2022, even while the powers-at-be ponder on what to spend money on (more on that later). In the meantime, we know that WBD’s adult animation presence will be a big deal on a few fronts. For starters, WB Animation’s DC Universe will be in tow featuring panels for Harley Quinn’s third season which will feature the first two episodes. The worldwide premiere of the next animated film,  Green Lantern: Beware My Power, will also be on hand.

Adult Swim will be featured as well, in what looks to be a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Adult Swim Festival, panels for Smiling Friends, Rick and Morty digital spin-off series The Vindicators, Primal, and Tuca & Bertie will all be on hand with cast and producers to showcase what’s coming the rest of the year.

Toonami will be a big no show at Comic-Con 2022 and VP of anime Jason DeMarco recently went on Twitter to do a quick Q&A about the future of the action block. Some bad news includes yet another delay for Uzumaki, The Shivering Truth being canceled, and the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger with Sony causing headaches for any future collaborations, even putting strain on Fena: Pirate Princess showing up on HBO MAX. Also of note, Adult Swim has removed Youtube pages and website pages related to franchises like JJ Villard’s Fairy Tales, Dream Corp LLC, and Final Space.

Good news, it looks as though WB may be loosening the reigns on the possibility of DC animated content becoming part of the block as well as classic anime that has never seen the light of day on Toonami being featured. Also, the AMC deal with Sentai Filmworks seems to not have had any hindrance with future content being shown on Toonami as evidenced by Lupin the Third continuing to air new episodes.
