Review: The Smurfs “The Scariest Smurf”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Scaredy transforms into a monster and wrecks havoc in the village on Halloween.
Our Take:
We’re only five episodes in, and we already got a Halloween special for Nickelodeon’s interpretation of The Smurfs. This weekend kicks off the Halloween festivities early for the young fans of the channel, starting with a spooky-themed episode that’ll smurf the pants off of you. If that didn’t work, then it’ll at least try to make you less scared with its innocent charm.
“The Scariest Smurf” sees the Smurfs preparing for a Halloween party in Smurf Village. Every Smurf is attending except Scaredy, who’s afraid of things that go bump in the night. Brainy then tasks Scaredy to deliver the potions to Papa Smurf. Unfortunately, Scaredy accidentally spills the potions on himself on the way there, resulting in him merging with the tools and transforming into a monster. Now trapped inside the monstrous creation, Scaredy attempts to get help from the other Smurfs. But, unluckily for him, the Smurfs didn’t realize that Scaredy was inside and believed an actual monster was attacking them.
Halloween-themed episodes in kid-friendly shows usually provide some hilarity amid their spooky nature, and The Smurfs is no exception. This is yet another episode that features Scaredy Smurf as the main focus, which I didn’t mind because he was still one of the best parts of the show so far. Scaredy proved my theory right once again as he unintentionally (and amusingly) scares the Smurfs and Gargamel with his monster “costume” with comical results. While it didn’t offer anything refreshing to its formula, it compensated with its slapstick and fun, spooky shenanigans.
Overall, “The Scariest Smurf” is another enjoyable and charming episode featuring the Smurf who’s easily terrified. Not only that, but it is also a suitable start for the show’s potential series of holiday-themed stories. It’s also more humorous than scary, which, to me, is the perfect balance for the kids to endure, especially those who loved The Smurfs.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
