English Dub Review: Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory (Uncensored): “Sutea Ponders About the Sea / Koushi Makes His Cosplay Debut”
Overview: After their trip to the beach, Frey (Melody Spade) helps Koushi (Brittany Karbowski) unravel his newfound feelings for Atena (Christina Kelly) he didn’t know he had.
Our Take: Frey has been incredible eye candy thus far in the series, but that’s pretty much all she’s been reduced to. From her scantily dressed cosplay outfits to her lack of humility when it comes to nudity, she has been at the forefront of the series’ fanservice. But now she finally seems to be gaining some mature momentum as she helps Koushi come to terms with his budding feelings for Atena. Showing Frey is more than just a hot rack, her cosplay connects to a real hidden insecurity and deeper aspect to who she truly is that was unexpected coming off of what has been established with her. Despite their insane personalities and while the girl’s backstories are contained to a single episode and not developed as deeply as they could be, all of the girls are pleasantly more than just a pretty surface and are more relatable as a result.
Koushi’s troubles juggle a lot more than just Frey’s character development (wink wink) as not only do they establish him as more than just the stereotypical overly polite protagonist, but also help push the romantic progression forward, albeit with a caveat. Koushi coming to terms with his feelings but keeping them close to the chest has the potential to forcibly prolong the drama of him and Atena’s relationship. Not to mention Koushi choosing to not to mention his feelings, although he accepts them, feels underwhelming due to the emotional journey he went through within the course of the episode. Hopefully not all emotional developments will feel like half steps moving at a snail’s pace. Also, while previous entries framed Kiriya as a legitimate candidate in the running for Koushi’s heart, she definitely seems to be taking a backseat to Atena, especially if this episode is any indication. She had a sweet and friendly scene with Sutea, but wasn’t at the center of his thoughts. It would be unfortunate if she is just there to add to his “potential” harem and nothing more, undercutting her actual potential. But like how Atena and Frey were handled, there is always time to make up for that.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
