English Dub Review: So I’m a Spider, So What? “Am I Dead?”
Overview
The Spider-Lady finds herself terrified after sensing the presence of the overseer. But rather than worry about it, she decides to keep moving forward, accepting the abnormal status affecting her, and begins to learn magic. And in the distance, the sounds of an intense battle can be heard…
Our Take
A slow episode, but a backstory-heavy one we got to see a lot of insight on the other school kids and what they were like in their past lives. It was fairly interesting to sit and compare them to their lives in this new world whilst watching the episode and seeing both the lives of what kind of person Spider-Lady was like, and her classmates before the reincarnation, and the Administrator D part (albeit very briefly).
Spider-Lady is also in a tough spot facing against such a towering foe. Even with it already hurt before she even tried to take it on doesn’t help her much. She had some quick thinking with her poison skills but still didn’t work. I really enjoy seeing her cooperate with the parallel minds she’s developed now. as these different versions of her control the inner workings of her brain with all three workings together to defeat this dragon. In a weird way, it’s like that Disney movie “Inside-Out” but with lots of animal/monster murder.
Overall, I thought the episode was fine. It was a little slow for me compared to other episodes. I did like how we got more backstory from the other human classmates associated with Spider-Lady, just wish there was more of them, but in small doses when there’s no action. At the very least, it excelled partially by we the audience getting to know our little spider was in her previous life as well. Then, we had the Spider-Lady vs Dragon fight, once again the CG was hit or miss. I’ll never understand why the concept of 3D in an anime pisses people off even if it’s utilized properly but it still remains compelling enough to keep watching as this “Administrator D” character is somewhat behind the scenes.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
