English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind:”Green Tea and Sanctuary, Part 1″

Overview (Spoilers Below)

After escaping what could’ve been certain death from Cioccolata’s “Green Tea” stand and it’s the horrifying acidic mold that responds to when you physically descend to lower ground, The fight against Cioccolata his Gimped-costumed henchman, Secco continues. Bruno is suddenly overwhelmed by the punches of Secco, who rebounds his fists from the ground to increase his speed and power. Meanwhile, Giorno heals Narancia inside Cocoa-Large (A Turtle with Stand Powers they use for light travel), and Narancia has a conversation with Trish about Bruno’s questionable leadership. When Bruno and Guido ascend some stairs, the whole infrastructure begins to sink under the influence of Secco’s Stand known as “Sanctuary” (“Oasis” in Japan) which can turn rock to sludge.

While Guido and Bruno reach the parking lot to steal a random car for safety, Secco continues to pursue and eventually wounds Guido. Bruno then jumps down the parking lot, surprising Secco and pummeling him to force him to retreat. Secco dives underground and then explains to Cioccolata an odd discovery he made about Bruno that caught him off guard. Later on, as they drive using that stolen car to Rome, Giorno notices a few abnormalities with Bruno, and it’s here when things begin to unravel. It turns out that in a previous episode during their first encounter with the “Emperor Crimson” in Venice which nearly killed Bruno until Giorno sort-of saved him, but given Giorno’s unusual stand powers, It was not without some troubling and tragic side effects…

Of course, this conversation comes to an abrupt halt when they’re interrupted when a mold-riddled corpse falls from them: Cioccolata and Secco have caught up in a helicopter, and in another fairly disturbing scene we see the Green Tea’s Stand powers in action in a more populated area, while Secco drops down into the ground to attack them once more. Giorno and Guido then use a clever team-attack to stop Cioccolata’s helicopter at the top of a tower, and the episode ends when The team subsequently splits up to defeat both Stand users. in place. Giorno and Guido climb to pursue Cioccolata while Bruno prepares to deal with Secco head-on.

Our Take

Another great episode, This fight is just so hype especially since not everyone was completely left out and participates in the action to some degree. Also, the weird-ass relationship between Cioccolata and Secco while deadly as a team, took some very weird directions that must be seen to be believed. The Helicopter scene was easily one of the most shocking moments when you see Green Tea’s effects on a city’s population was disgustingly wince-worthy and truly showed why the Passione Boss was so damn apprehensive to unleash the two in the first place.

Also, while Bruno’s big secret was revealed to Giorno was tragic yet a blessing in disguise for their current situation, it confirmed Giorno’s worst fears and added a new layer of emotional weight to the proceedings. Aside from this, The episode as a whole was the right balance of action, drama, and humor without feeling out of place in a Jojo story which is the highest compliment I can give.
