King of the Hill Brings In A King’s Ransom For Hulu
According to a report by Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Economics, the animated comedy series King of the Hill has generated nearly $100 million in streaming revenue for Hulu since early 2020. This financial success is a key reason behind the show’s recent revival.
The data indicates that the show’s value is on par with other popular animated series like American Dad! The show’s recent premiere of its 14th season drew a record-breaking 4.4 million viewers in its first week, peaking at number one among Hulu’s top 15 shows. The success of the revival’s first episode, “Return of the King,” marked the streaming platform’s most successful adult animation premiere in approximately five years.
This success highlights the value of proven intellectual property (IP) for streaming platforms, demonstrating that revivals of beloved series can be a low-risk, high-reward strategy. It also shows the power of nostalgia in driving initial viewership. While the initial surge in demand may taper off, the long-term staying power of animated comedies like King of the Hill makes them a valuable asset for streamers looking to boost engagement.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
