Akito’s reign of terror continues after the previous episode as he purposefully excludes Tohru from at least 70% of the Sohma family that Akito seemingly has under his thumb, The character Rin is introduced for the first time on the show, and we learn a bit more about Kyo’s past and the origins of his bead wristband and why it’s so sacred…

Our Take.

Rin’s introduction to Tohru almost ended before it could start, but Yuki was quick enough to bring Tohru out of harm’s way. Also, Is it just me or did the series took a dark direction really fast? One of the strangely fascinating things about Akito is how different this person is from practically every other anime villain I can think of. There’s no grand plan for world domination, no great threat to society, as Akito’s primary goal/motivation is to maintain absolute control over the lives of a small circle of people. It’s pretty damn petty, and yet Akito keeps finding ways to mentally fuck with people more than a dozen would-be world conquerors.

Overall, while not of my most memorable episode, the moments of tension whenever Akito was on screen was handled perfectly. Aside from the mysterious, foreboding mood going around, the pacing feels a bit slow to me, but remain interested in seeing how all this Sohma drama is about to potentially unfold…
