Review: Our Cartoon President “G-7”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
After dealing with domestic issues that include coronavirus, President Trump holds a G-7 meeting in an attempt to get Russia into the fold. Unfortunately, he makes himself to look like an idiot so he decides to put together his own international organization, this one filled with dictators who are NOT impressed with Donald Trump in the slightest. To regain their favor, Donald introduces the dictators to the wonderful world of pranks against the other G-7 members which soon achieves the President’s goal of acceptance in their international club. After a while, we learn that the dictators prefer the pranks that cause death which actually gets Donald worried because I guess he’s nowhere near as evil as dictators and actually has a heart.
Meanwhile, Ivanka and Don Jr. have a good ol’ fashioned battle as to who is going to get dad’s inheritance. To help, Ivanka attempts to go on a press tour to make herself look more respectable and deserving of this honor. Don Jr. releases a book that connects with people which gets Ivanka pissed but she’s able to bounce back with a guest spot on The View and a bunch of rallies that soon gets her back in the limelight for a little bit but Don Jr., just as resilient as his dad, is able to jump back in the lead. The kids eventually make up and realize that they have more in common than they once thought…except not mothers.
Donald comes around to pick his kids back up after he removes Chuck Todd’s finger and he starts his own summit.
Our Take
After weeks of Democratic debate nonsense, it was actually refreshing to get a more GOP-centered Our Cartoon President episode. Moreover, I was impressed that the producers were able to put together the cold open despite all of the craziness going down with the coronavirus.
When we boil everything down, the premises of both plots were rather formulaic when compared to other Trump-centered episodes of Our Cartoon President. In this case it’s Trump trying to impress someone and goes crazy trying to do so. In the case of Ivanka and Don Jr., it’s another plot with the kids jockeying for their father’s approval. That doesn’t mean there weren’t funny gags to be had. The sheer lunacy of the dictators was on display and very funny. I also loved The View and the respected character designs/voices for each of the show’s hosts as I thought they were right on the money. Chuck Todd is becoming increasingly visible in recent weeks making him the defacto news anchor in which to shit on which is just fine with me.
A solid episode, really run-of-the-mill, but a good change of pace for the season that’s been heavy on Democratic nonsense.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
