English Dub Review: Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou “Special Training, Snip Snip, Fears”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Aki’s been here a month now and catches wind about a three-legged race event happening on sports day that will see both he and the Caretaker as teammates. As a result, the two have to go through all sorts of exercises to prepare for the event only to not even bother going. When a spider shows up in the bathroom, the whole house is too scared to do anything about it except for Ayaka who deals with it rather simply. As a result, Yuzu wants Aki to find out what scares Ayaka but after a day at the market and a scary movie he comes up with nothing. Do you know what DOES scare Ayaka? Sleeping in bed alone after watching a scary movie which is what Aki does.

Our Take

How the hell does this show feature a lead character with no bodily functions what-so-ever? I’m not even sure if Aki likes women due to the fact that he’s able to take baths and sleep in bed with them but has no interest in potentially hooking up. In any event, the spider bit was well-produced, though I always find it fascinating when an entire country is terrified of the small creature. Oh, and we also got a Ringu cameo of sorts which was kind of fun, but overall, this series is presented as three romantic comedic shorts just smooshed together with no discernible point.
